The Soca Warriors finished second in December's Caribbean Cup, the biennial championship for national teams in the Caribbean that also doubles as the region's Gold Cup qualifying competition, losing to Cuba 1-0 in the final after extra time.
The game against the South Americans will also give the fans a chance to see some of the international players who missed the Caribbean competition. The roster called up by co-head coaches Hutson Charles and Jamaal Shabazz seemingly resembles more of what the team will look like at full strength.
Stoke City's Kenwyne Jones and Carlos Edwards of Ipswich Town are two of six overseas-based players in the Trinidad camp.
"It think it's a very exciting moment for the partnership of the coaching staff and a huge test for our players because playing Caribbean players is one level and there is a comfort zone for us there but now we have gone outside of that by playing a South American opponent and it will be a test that we are really looking forward to," Shabazz told TTFF Media.
T&T defender Aubrey David is equally pleased that the team is back together on home soil and playing a capable opponent.
"We felt good playing and doing fairly well in Antigua and throughout the Caribbean Cup, but the best times are being able to play in front of the home fans," David told TTFF Media. "We are excited and eager to play for them and hopefully do well against a team like Peru."
Goalkeeper Jan Michael Williams, who captained the team during the Caribbean Cup Finals, has been invited as a third goalkeeper to train with the squad. Shabazz explained that the decision to leave Williams out of the 18-man squad had nothing to do with his recent fall out with former club W Connection, but rather due to his lack of playing time between the uprights in recent weeks.
Caledonia AIA midfielder Ataullah Guerra, who scored the winning penalty in T&T's victory over Martinique in the Caribbean Cup semifinals, is coming off a trial in Turkey where he was accompanied by Densill Theobald.
