LONDON – Tottenham Hotspur announced Tuesday that United States international DeAndre Yedlin will be joining it in January.
The English Premier League side and the Seattle Sounders agreed to a transfer in August after the 21-year-old’s trio of outstanding performances at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. As part of the arrangement, Yedlin was to remain with the Major League Soccer club through at least the 2014 season.
"DeAndre is a young player with great potential who has already achieved a lot in Major League Soccer,” said Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino. "It is important for his development that he is given the time to adapt to his new surroundings both on and off the pitch and we believe that by coming to us in January it will give him the best opportunity to do so."
The 10-time capped right back has appeared in a combined 62 regular season and playoff games for Seattle and scored one goal. He has also played in four CONCACAF Champions League matches, netting in a 3-1 quarterfinal win over visiting Tigres on March 12, 2013.
Yedlin participated in the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup, taking the field against Spain, France and Ghana.
