HARRISON, N.J. – Sporting San Miguelito loaned Panama international Fidel Escobar to the New York Red Bulls through the end of the 2018 Major League Soccer season, it was announced Thursday.

Earlier in the month, the 22-year-old defender appeared in three games at the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup as the Panamanians were eliminated by Costa Rica in the quarterfinals, 1-0.

Escobar began his professional career with San Francisco FC during the 2012/13 season, before moving to Sporting San Miguelito ahead of the 2014 Panamanian Clausura.  He most recently spent the 2016/17 campaign on loan to Sporting Lisbon’s reserve side, scoring one goal in 14 games.

The Panama City native earned his first senior cap in a 2-0 loss to the host United States in an international friendly on February 8, 2015.

With the Red Bulls, he will join Panama teammate Michael Murillo, who is currently on loan from San Francisco FC.
