KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica men’s national team capped off a historic night with a 3-2 win over Honduras in 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup Group C action on Monday night at the Independence Park Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica.
The hosts opened the scoring in the 15th minute after Leon Bailey chipped a pass over to Peter Vassell for the shot towards goal. Honduras GK Luis Lopez was able to get a hand on the ball, but not enough to deny it from reaching the far post where Dever Orgill gave Jamaica the lead.
Orgill would find the back of the net again in the 41st minute as a result of some collective passing inside the box and finished for a 2-0 lead.
Honduras would not back down and cut the deficit to one when Alberth Elis eventually broke free with the ball towards goal, hitting the brakes in front of Jamaica GK Andre Blake and delivering the pass for Antony Lozano to convert.
Jamaica responded just a few minutes later with a header by Damion Lowe extending the lead to 3-1 in the 56th minute.
Honduras would not go away quietly, picking up its second goal in the 90+2’ from substitute forward Rubilio Castillo.
The 3-2 win caps off a night when Jamaica’s hosted its first Gold Cup match in front of an electric crowd of 17,874 spectators.
