MANAGUA, Nicaragua – Though he will have little time to prepare his new troops for a friendly on Tuesday, interim head coach Javier Londoño is looking forward to leading Nicaragua against visiting El Salvador in Esteli.
The Colombian was appointed to the post on Tuesday, replacing Spaniard Enrique Llena, who departed after more than four years in charge.
“I know the challenge that I have assumed and I thank Enrique Llena for the trust he has given me,” said Londoño, the Nicaragua under-17 manager for four years. “I know he recommended that I manage this friendly and I will try to repay his trust. I will dedicate this match to him.”
For the El Salvador encounter, a provisional roster of 22 players was named, 18 of whom will dress.
“It is a team that has the ball, that knows how to attack and has a lot of possession,” Londoño commented on the strengths of his side. “Based on that and how well the players are doing with their teams was the decision of who got called up.”
