HARRISON, New Jersey – Nicaragua is looking for its first win in Group B to close out its 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup run on a high when it meets Bermuda on Monday.
“We did not reach our first objective of advancing to the second round, but we did come in with other goals in the Gold Cup,” said head coach Henry Duarte at a pre-match press conference on Sunday.
“We know this won’t be easy because Bermuda is not an easy team, but we need to reach that objective of winning a match in order to move forward with our main objective,” added Duarte.
Nicaragua, who did not qualify for the Gold Cup until 2009 and has now qualified for back-to-back Gold Cup, looks to learn from its 2019 Gold Cup run to continue building and making progress with Nicaragua’s talents.
“We as coaches, we have to be positive and those are the messages that we do need to give our teams and I would never hold the team back, I want them to move forward,” said Duarte.
“How do we expect to cross those barriers if you are not aggressive as a coach? The only way that I know is to show that intent. To move forward, and its fair for people to have high expectations of Nicaragua,” concluded Duarte.
