MEXICO CITY – Prior to traveling to South America ahead of the Copa America, Mexico will host Guatemala in an international friendly on May 30, the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol Asociación announced Friday.
The match will take place at the Estadio Víctor Manuel Reyna in Tuxtla Gutierrez, where the Tricolor defeated Honduras, 2-0, on October 9, 2014.
Mexico will then play at Peru (June 3 in Lima) and at Brazil (June 7 in Sao Paulo), before opening its Copa America campaign against Bolivia on June 12 in Viña del Mar, Chile.
According to FIFA records, in 30 all-time meetings between them, Mexico holds a 20-4 advantage in wins over Guatemala. In their last meeting on June 18, 2011, Javier Hernandez scored the game-winning goal as the Mexicans posted a 2-1 victory in CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinals at what is currently known as MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
