SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras – Honduras international Johnny Leveron signed with Marathon, it was announced Saturday.
On December 8, the Vancouver Whitecaps -- Leveron’s previous club – announced that it would not pick up the option on his contract, making him a free agent. The central defender played in 34 Major League Soccer games in two years with the Canadian-based side.
Leveron has appeared in FIFA competitions at all age levels: U-17 World Cup (2007), U-20 World Cup (2009) and the Olympic Football Tournament (2012) and World Cup Qualifying (2012).
Despite his relative youth, the 24-year-old has won the Honduran league title as member of Motagua (2011 Clausura) and the 2011 Central American Cup with Honduras. Also, with Motagua, he played in two editions of the CONCACAF Champions League (2010/11 & 2011/12), appearing in nine total games.
Additionally, the 22-time capped Leveron has competed in the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup and the 2014 Central American Cup.
