LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – Jamaica and Curacao played to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday night in the final Group C matchday and first Gold Cup match to take place at the Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles, California.
Damion Lowe, Shamar Nicholson and JeVaughn Watson each had their share of opportunities against the Curacao before the goal would drop in the 14th minute.
Jamaica and Curacao wrestled each other with a couple of headers before Andrew Lewis hit the volley towards goal in the 14th minute. Shamar Nicholson was the man to redirect the ball towards the back of the net – giving a 1-0 lead to Jamaica.
Curacao nearly responded in the 20th minute as Jurien Gaari delivered a dangerous cross that was saved by Jamaica’s Andre Blake.
The Reggae Boyz started the second half with good build up play but Curacao keeper Eloy Room denied them on that goal scoring opportunity.
Leandro Bacuna had three consecutive opportunities during the 74th and 75th but the score would remain.
Jurien Gaari would be the hero for Curacao on this occasion, firing the ball home from a corner opportunity in second half stoppage time to tie the match.
The 1-1 score means Jamaica advance to the its third consecutive Gold Cup quarterfinals while Curacao depend on a Honduras win against El Salvador to help their cause.
