KANSAS CITY, Kansas -- Sporting Kansas City announced Friday the signing of Haiti international midfielder Soni Mustivar.
The 25-year-old spent the past three seasons with Romania’s FC Petrolul Ploiesti, scoring two goals in 61 league appearances. He has also played in eight UEFA Europa League games.
“We are always looking to add quality players to our team and we feel as if we have done that with the addition of Soni,” Sporting KC head coach Peter Vermes said. “I believe that once he gets acclimated to the way we play, there are some special qualities in his game that will become very apparent.”
Mustivar has made six appearances for Haiti, including three during its run to a third-place finish in the 2014 Caribbean Cup, which sealed a place in the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
“I am very excited to join Sporting Kansas City,” Mustivar said. “This is a great team with great fans. I am going to work hard from day one to contribute to the team any way I can.”
A former France under-20 international, Mustivar started his professional career with SC Bastia in France’s Ligue 2 during the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons. He made 22 league appearances over two seasons.
Following a loan spell at US Orleans (France), Mustivar moved to FC Petrolul Ploiesti, winning the 2012/13 Romanian Cup.
