MEXICO CITY – Mexico announced Thursday the list of 23 players chosen for a pair of friendlies next month in the United States.

The 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup champion will face Trinidad & Tobago on September 4 (Rio Tinto Stadium; Sandy, Utah) and Argentina on September 8 (AT&T Stadium; Arlington, Texas).

In the first matches under interim head coach Ricardo Ferretti, the Tricolor’s selection is highlighted by Gold Cup Golden Ball winner Andres Guardado, who has started each of PSV Eindhoven’s three matches to open the new Dutch Eredivisie season.

Also earning inclusion is forward Javier Hernandez, who missed the Gold Cup with a collarbone injury. His Manchester United side was drawn into the same UEFA Champions League group as PSV Eindhoven, meaning that two Mexico’s biggest stars could meet twice later this year as rivals.

Additionally, seven players from 2015/16 CONCACAF Champions League participants were chosen, four from Club America and three from Ferretti’s club, Tigres.

Mexico is using the September encounters as part of its preparation for the October 10 match against the United States, a playoff for a berth in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.
