LONDON -- Less than two weeks after its unveiling in Mexico City, the new CONCACAF Gold Cup trophy will witness its first grand final on Saturday evening.
While it waits to be lifted later this summer in Chicago, the new, state of the art Gold Cup made an appearance Saturday on FOX's pre-game UEFA Champions League show in London. Commentators including former U.S. international Brian McBride - MVP of the 2002 Gold Cup - reveled at the lines and splendor of CONCACAF's most important prize for national teams.
After its introduction in front of a packed house in Mexico City last week, the trophy went on a quick tour of 2013 Gold Cup Final host city Chicago, before crossing the Atlantic to England.
Look for the Cup in a CONCACAF city near you soon, as the prized representative of the regional championship makes its way back to Chicago for the Gold Cup Final, to be disputed on July 28 at Soldier Field in Chicago.
