SAN SALAVDOR, El Salvador – El Salvador will face host Nicaragua in an international friendly on November 18 in Managua, the Salvadoran Football Federation announced Monday.
It will be the first meeting between the sides since January 14, 2011, when the Salvadorans posted a 2-0 win in a Central American Cup match played in Panama City, Panama.
Nicaragua barely missed out on a place in next year’s CONCACAF Gold Cup, falling 1-0 to Honduras in the match for fifth place in September’s Central American Cup.
Thus far, in 2014, El Salvador – which finished fourth in the Central Cup to qualify for the 2015 Gold Cup - has squared off against five teams (Colombia, Ecuador, Honduras, Ivory Coast and Spain) that participated in this year’s World Cup. The challenging schedule is part of head coach Albert Roca’s effort to lift the national team’s level of play prior to qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
