Curaçao GK Room joins Columbus Crew
After great performances with the Curaçao team in the Concacaf Gold Cup, goalkeeper Eloy Room caught the attention of the Columbus Crew MLS team that announced his contract on July 5, 2019.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – On Friday, Major League Soccer club Columbus Crew SC announced the signing of standout Curacao GK Eloy Room.

Room joins the Ohio-based outfit from PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Eredivisie.

Room has amassed 159 career starts in the top flight in the Netherlands and 30 caps with the Curacao National Team, helping lead Curacao to the 2017 Concacaf Caribbean Cup title and qualification for the 2017 and 2019 Concacaf Gold Cups.

“We are excited to have a player as experienced and proven as Eloy join Columbus Crew SC,” said Crew SC President and General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko via an official statement.

“Eloy is a talented goalkeeper whose leadership and shot-stopping ability will help strengthen our Club. We believe Eloy’s background competing at the European and international level will allow him to contribute to Crew SC immediately,” added Bezbatchenko.

Room has started in all seven matches that Curacao has played in a Gold Cup, helping lead the Caribbean nation to the knockout round of the 2019 edition.

Room conceded just three goals in the 2019 Gold Cup and registered a clean sheet in Curacao’s first ever Gold Cup victory, a 1-0 group stage win over Honduras in which Room was named Man of the Match.
