Costa Rica int’l Gonzalez moves to Bologna

BOLOGNA, Italy – Bologna announced Thursday the signing of Costa Rica international Giancarlo Gonzalez.

The 29-year-old defender spent the last three seasons with fellow Italian Serie A side Palermo after joining it from the United States’ Columbus Crew.

Earlier in his career, Gonzalez was part of three Costa Rican title winning sides with Alajuelense (2010 Invierno, 2011 Verano and the 2011 Invierno).

With Costa Rica, he has competed in one FIFA World Cup (5 games/0 goals), one Copa Centroamerica (2013: 4/1, champion), two editions of the CONCACAF Gold Cup (2013: 3/0; 2015: 4/0) and the FIFA U-20 World Cup (2/0).

Gonzalez, who scored the only goal in the 2013 Copa Centroamericana final (1-0 win v Honduras), is on Costa Rica’s provisional roster for the 2017 Gold Cup.
