OTTAWA – For its most significant challenge under head coach Benito Floro, Canada selected 22 players Friday for an international friendly against Colombia on October 14 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey, USA.
In constructing the squad, Floro continued to combine a veteran core along with a mix of youth as he looks ahead to the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
“The match against Colombia will be very difficult for us, due to the quality of the opponent,” said Floro. “At the same time, the game will be a very interesting test for us as we need to see our competitive level and our spirit against top teams.
“My goal for this match against Colombia is to prepare the team and continue to improve how we press our opponents. We need to improve a lot in these situations.”
The Canadians, who unbeaten in 2014 with a 1-2-0 record, will gather for training in Mexico on Sunday, before traveling to the U.S. on October 11.
