PASADENA, California – Uriel Antuna scored a hat trick to help lead Mexico past Cuba 7-0 in 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup Group A action on Saturday night at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.
Mexico got things going early when a Raul Jimenez shot in the 2’ bounced off the post and Antuna pushed it in for a 1-0 lead.
El Tricolor then doubled its lead 2-0 in the 31’ with Andres Guardado assisting on Jimenez’s first goal of the tournament.
Mexico extended the lead to 3-0 in the 38’ when a Jimenez shot was blocked by Cuba GK Sandy Sanchez and Diego Reyes pounced for the goal.
Antuna found himself again at the right place and right time shortly before halftime and slammed in a shot for a 4-0 advantage.
Jimenez tallied his second of the night in the 64’ to make it 5-0, followed by Alexis Vega stretching it to 6-0 in the 74’.
Antuna then capped his dream outing in the 80’ by capitalizing on Sanchez’s block of a stinging Carlos Rodriguez effort to round out the 7-0 scoreline
