The Gold Cup is Guadeloupe's World Cup. Because the Caribbean island is an overseas department of the France, Guadeloupe is an associate member of CONCACAF, not affiliated with FIFA and cannot participate in the competition. Guadeloupe, however, has been a force in the Gold Cup under coach Roger Salnot. In 2007, the Gwada Boys upset Canada and drew with Haiti in the group stage and stunned Honduras in the quarterfinals before losing to Mexico in the semifinals, 1-0. In 2009, Salnot's side had first-round wins over Panama and Nicaragua before losing to Costa Rica in the quarterfinals, 5-1. The success continued at the 2010 Digicel Caribbean Cup final (Gold Cup qualifying), where Guadeloupe fell to champion Jamaica on penalty kicks.
