The four-time champion has never failed to reach the quarterfinals and have reached the final five times, its lone loss coming in the 2007 title match to the United States 2-1 in Chicago. Mexico has dominated CONCACAF foes in the Gold Cup, having won 28 of the 39 matches it has played, outscoring the opposition 88-22. Mexico has a rich tradition of excellence regionally, having qualified for the FIFA World Cup 13 times. Twice El Tri has reached the quarterfinals of the competition, including 1986 on home soil. Mexico has advanced to the second round of the World Cup in each of the last four World Cups.
